Size: Miniature - 3.5 × 3.7 × 1.8 cm
A nice Tourmaline miniature with pale to light green Elbaite with good luster and striations, surrounded with soft peach colored Muscovite. Elbaite is a lithium-rich tourmaline mineral with the formula Na(Li1.5Al1.5)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3(OH). This colorful variety occurs beautifully with silvery muscovite, a potassium aluminum silicate prized for its sparkling, sheet-like crystals.
Dara-e-Pech District in Kunar, Afghanistan, is home to a renowned rare-metal pegmatite field within the Early Cretaceous Nilau igneous complex, where pegmatites are hosted mainly by gabbro and diorite. The district is known for lithium-, beryllium-, tantalum-, and niobium-rich mineralization, including kunzite, morganite beryl, elbaite tourmaline, spodumene, columbite-tantalite, cassiterite, and pollucite. Particularly prized are flawless morganite, kunzite, and delicate green to deep-indigo elbaite crystals, including distinctive “pencil” specimens compared with the finest from Minas Gerais. Its combination of gem-quality crystals and world-class cassiterite continues to make Dara-e-Pech a highly significant locality for mineral collectors.
