A great, double terminated smoky quartz crystal with rutile inclusions. One face is covered with more, smaller quartz crystals. The “bottom” terminations is a group of several terminations. Very unique.
Smoky Quartz is a gray to black variety of quartz (SiO2) whose color comes from gamma irradiation and trace aluminum in its crystal lattice. Its color fades in sunlight but can be restored by re-irradiation, making it a stable gemstone for jewelry when kept indoors.
Rutile is the most common and stable form of titanium dioxide (TiO2), classified as an oxide mineral. Its name comes from the Latin rutilus, meaning reddish, first introduced by German geologist Abraham Gottlob Werner in 1800, and it is a key ingredient in paint and sunscreen.
