An aesthetic miniature from a newer find in the past few years, features rhombohedral Dolomite surrounded by a vivid Chalcopytite.
Chalcopyrite is a copper iron sulfide, CuFeS2, first described in 1847 by Wilhelm Karl von Haidinger. Its name comes from the Greek words for copper and brass, a nod to its brassy metallic color, and it is the chief ore of copper.
Shanxi is a province in north China, distinct from neighboring Shaanxi. It is especially significant to collectors and mineral enthusiasts for its broad coal-bearing geology, with major coal-forming periods including the Late Carboniferous and Early Permian, and it is also known for bauxite and iron deposits. The province has produced important mineral localities such as the Xiaoyi bauxite district, the Yuanjiacun iron deposit, and copper mineralization in the Zhongtiaoshan ore field, reflecting its long and varied metallogenic history.
