Size: Miniature - 3.6 × 3 × 2 cm

Cobaltoan calcite is a pink variety of calcite with the formula (Ca,Co)CO₃, where cobalt ions replace some calcium . It was originally described from the Cape Calamita Mine on Elba Island, Italy . This mineral is frequently confused with spherocobaltite due to its dark pink color .

The Katanga Copper Crescent in Haut-Katanga, DR Congo is a major mining area renowned for its immense richness in secondary copper minerals, particularly malachite, which often outcrops on the surface . This region has produced notable specimens including the best baryte crystal clusters in Congo from the Shangulowé Mine and fine turquoise crystals from Katonto Hill . Collectors value the area for its diverse copper and cobalt deposits, with over 66 valid minerals recorded across at least 12 localities within the crescent . Despite some specimens being of variable quality, the region remains a significant source for collectors seeking exceptional copper mineral specimens .
