Vesuvianite is a calcium aluminum silicate mineral, commonly found in skarns and metamorphosed limestones. It was first described in 1795 by Abraham Gottlob Werner, and its name comes from Mount Vesuvius. Black material is a rare color variety of this colorful species.
Zagi Mountain, in Hameed Abad Kafoor Dheri of Peshawar District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, is a noted collector locality for rare accessory minerals from a complex mountain occurrence. It is especially known for bastnäsite-(Ce), with some of the best crystals reported there, including prismatic examples up to 6 to 7 cm, along with xenotime-(Y), baotite, thorite, and titanite. Specimens from Zagi Mountain are valued today for their combination of uncommon species, sharp crystal forms, and the locality’s reputation for producing standout pieces from Pakistan.
