Locality: Anti-Atlas Mountains, Morocco

Size: 6.2 × 4.5 × 3.7 cm

Star Aragonite is a calcium carbonate mineral (CaCO3) belonging to the orthorhombic carbonate group, often forming striking pseudo-hexagonal clusters. First described from Aragon, Spain, its name derives from the Latinized region where it was originally discovered, and it is sometimes recognized for its use in decorative stone collections due to its unique star-like crystal habit.

The Anti-Atlas Mountains form the southernmost of Morocco's four principal mountain ranges and contain some of the world's largest and most diverse mineral resources, most of which remain untouched. This geologically rich region in southern Morocco is known for producing notable specimens including trachyte, hematite, quartz, gypsum, chalcanthite, and bornite. Collectors today value the Anti-Atlas for its exceptional mineral diversity and the potential to discover rare, high-quality specimens from its vast, largely unexplored deposits. The area's unique geological setting makes it a significant and exciting locality for mineral enthusiasts seeking distinctive Moroccan minerals.
