Novo Horizonte is a municipality in Bahia in northeastern Brazil, formerly part of Ibitiara, and it is the name now used for the locality that collectors associate with some of Brazil’s best-known rutilated quartz and rutile-on-hematite specimens. The area is especially noted for striking quartz pieces with bright golden rutile needles, often paired with metallic hematite, making it a classic Brazilian source for display-grade material. For collectors today, Novo Horizonte remains important as the current locality name for these celebrated rutile quartz occurrences.
