Gibbsite is a hydrated aluminum hydroxide, Al(OH)3, and a major aluminum ore mineral in bauxite. It was first described by John Torrey in 1822 and named for Colonel George Gibbs.

Xianghualing Mine in the Xianghualing Sn-polymetallic ore field of Linwu County, Chenzhou, Hunan, China, is a skarn-type Sn-Pb-Zn deposit. It is known for estimated metal endowment of about 134,000 tons of tin and 178,000 tons of lead-zinc, reflecting its significance as a major polymetallic system. The locality has also produced collectible species including taaffeite-group magnesiotaaffeite-2N’2S, making it relevant to mineral collectors today.
