The district is known for base- and precious-metal deposits hosted in Lower Paleozoic carbonate rocks and for ore bodies that occur as bedded replacements, irregular replacements, and vein and fissure deposits. It produced about 2.8 million tons of ore, with notable recovery of lead, zinc, copper, silver, and gold, and the Ophir Hill area was one of its largest and most recent producers.
