Goethite is a hydrous iron oxide mineral with formula FeO(OH). It was first described in 1806 by Johann Georg Lenz, and its name honors Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
Crystal Peak in Teller County, Colorado, is a summit in the Pikes Peak granite region near Florissant and Lake George, an area long known to collectors for pegmatite and granite-hosted mineral pockets. The locality has produced amazonite, smoky quartz, fluorite, and blocky allanite, with specimens from nearby claims and pockets especially associated with decomposed granite and small pegmatites. It is also part of the broader Crystal Peak region that has remained important for Colorado mineral collecting because of its distinctive combination of microlite, fluorite, and feldspar-bearing specimens.
