This colorful ‘combo’ mineral comes from a small family-owned and operated mine located just outside the city of Ica, Peru. Chrysocolla is a hydrated copper silicate mineral, while malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide. Chrysocolla was first described in 1833 by François Sulpice Beudant, and its name comes from the Greek for gold solder. Malachite was named from the Greek word for mallow, a reference to its green color.
