Size: Miniature - 5.3 × 3.2 × 1.7 cm
Jamesonite is a lead iron antimony sulfide, Pb4FeSb6S14, named for mineralogist Robert Jameson. It was first described in 1825 by Wilhelm Karl von Haidinger, and its name honors Jameson. Sphalerite is the familiar zinc sulfide ore that often appears with quartz.
Quiruvilca Mine in the Quiruvilca District of La Libertad, Peru is a Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag-Au mine in a volcanic belt of andesitic and basaltic rocks, developed by mesothermal to epithermal mineralization. It is especially known among collectors for excellent specimens of orpiment, enargite, hutchinsonite, and pyrite, with hutchinsonite notably occurring with barite and orpiment. The mine’s complex zoning includes enargite, transition, Pb-Zn, and stibnite zones, and its long history of underground workings has made it a classic Peruvian locality for distinctive sulfide specimens.
