Stilbite is a zeolite mineral in the stilbite subgroup, with a formula containing Na, Ca, or K such as NaCa4(Si27Al9)O72·28H2O. It was named in 1797 by Jean-Claude de la Métherie from Greek stilbein, meaning to glitter or shine, reflecting its pearly or vitreous luster.
Nashik quarries in Nashik District, Maharashtra, are hard rock aggregate quarries renowned for their rich cavities that have produced numerous collector specimens. Geologically part of the famed Deccan Traps basalts, this locality is notable for yielding minerals such as heulandite, prehnite, laumontite, babingtonite, quartz, apophyllite group minerals, scolecite, and rare powellite. The quarries, including Mahodari and Shakur, have also produced attractive fluorite, calcite, hematite, and fluorite balls, making them a significant source for zeolite and basalt-associated mineral collectors today.
