Vanadinite is a secondary lead chlorovanadate with formula Pb5(VO4)3Cl, first discovered by Andrés Manuel del Río before vanadium was identified in 1830, and named for its vanadium content. It is one of the primary industrial sources of vanadium, a key element in strong alloys for automobile and jet engine parts.
The Mibladen mining district in Midelt Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco, is a world-renowned locality for exceptional lead minerals hosted in Jurassic carbonates and Infracenomanian conglomerates. This district is geologically famous for producing some of the finest known specimens of vanadinite, often accompanied by baryte, calcite, and goethite, as well as very rare anglesite and cerussite.
