A multi-terminated crystal of Sphalerite from the family operation at the Don Abelino Mine, from our friends in Ica, Peru. This find showcased large, well-terminated crystals.
Sphalerite is zinc sulfide, ZnS, and the principal ore of zinc. It was first described in 1847 by Ernst Friedrich Glocker, and its name comes from the Greek sphaleros, meaning “deceitful.” It is the zinc ore behind many familiar metal products, and zinc also has uses in rubber and medicines.
