Tetrahedrite is a copper-antimony sulfide, Cu12Sb4S13, from the sulfosalt group. It was first described by Wilhelm Karl Ritter von Haidinger in 1845, and its name comes from the Greek word for “four-sided,” for its tetrahedral crystal form. It is a major silver ore mineral.
Sweet Home Mine on Mount Bross in the Alma Mining District of Park County, Colorado, is one of the classic specimen localities in the Rocky Mountains and was worked especially for collector-quality material. It is best known for producing outstanding rhodochrosite, with associated fluorite, quartz, pyrite, sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, tennantite, and huebnerite from mineralized veins. The mine gained fame through specimen recovery from the Number 2 stope and later careful collecting campaigns, including the recovery of the famous “Alma King,” and it remains highly significant to collectors for world-class miniature and cabinet pieces.
