It was named in 1800 by Dietrich Ludwig Gustav Karsten from the Greek barys, meaning “heavy.” In everyday use, it is the familiar barite used as a weighting agent in drilling fluids.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMibladen mining district, in Midelt Province of Morocco’s Drâa-Tafilalet Region, lies about 25 km northeast of Midelt and is world-famous among collectors for its superb vanadinite crystals. The district is a stratiform deposit hosted in Liassic limestones and dolomites, with baryte and galena as key ore minerals and active collecting still focused on old workings and small surface shafts for vanadinite, baryte, and cerussite.
