They’re not usually this good. This Copal Amber is PACKED with insects: Flies, mosquitos, gnats, a small beetle, a large soldier termite, and even an insect I can’t identify (look for the worm that looks like links).
Copal is an organic tree resin in an intermediate stage of hardening toward amber. It was first described by James Dwight Dana, and its name comes from the Mexican Spanish word for resin.
Copal localities in Sava, northeastern Madagascar, refer to scattered occurrences within the province’s Andapa, Antalaha, and Sambava districts. The area is specifically noted for Madagascar copal, a Quaternary fossil resin, and is part of the broader Sava region where collectors look for resin material rather than hard-rock mineral species. These localities are of interest today for specimens of natural copal associated with Madagascar’s well-known resin deposits.
