A striking blue/yellow/green zoned Fluorite with a light Iron-coating on some crystal faces. This is one of those pieces that the more you look, the more you will see.
Fluorite is calcium fluoride, CaF2, and the principal source of fluorine. It was named in 1797 by Carlo Antonio Galeani Napione from the Latin fluere, meaning “to flow,” because it served as a flux. It is also the mineral that gave fluorescence its name.
El Hammam Mine is a fluorite mine about 43 km southwest of Meknès in Khémisset Province, Morocco, and it is the only fluorite mine in the country. It works several veins, including the El Hammam, Bergamou, and Gouaida veins, producing pale green and purple fluorite that is notable for unusually high rare-earth-element content in fluorite and carbonates. The mine is also associated with quartz-phyllite veins carrying arsenopyrite and pyrrhotite, along with calcite and baryte, making it a well-known Moroccan locality for fluorite collectors.
