The striking blue color is interesting. It’s one of two things: a natural patina from natural acids in the mine OR enhanced patina from acid runoff of other mining operations in the area. Either way, it’s a unique color that grabs your attention and has a fun ‘this or that’ story.
Copper is a native element, Cu, prized for its malleability and conductivity. The name comes from Latin cuprum, and copper was first described in 1748 by Axel Fredrik Cronstedt. Spinel-twinned copper is a striking crystal habit collectors seek for its six-sided form.
Bou Nahas Mine in the Oumjrane mining area of Tinghir Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco is a collector-known copper locality with Bou N’hass as an alternate name. It is a type locality for the valid mineral bounahasite and has also produced native copper associated with quartz. The mine sits within the broader Oumjrane district, which is recognized for its mineral occurrences and underground workings in southeastern Morocco.
