Locality: Goboboseb Mountains, Brandberg Area, Dâures Constituency, Erongo Region, Namibia

Size: Miniature - 3.5 × 2.3 × 1.8 cm

‘Brandburg’ Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, composed of silicon dioxide (SiO2). These crystals come from Namibia’s Goboboseb Mountains, though specimen labels often use the better-known Brandberg name; some display striking red mineral inclusions.

The Goboboseb Mountains lie approximately 35 km west of the Brandberg in Namibia’s Erongo Region, forming part of the 132–135 million-year-old Etendeka Group of volcanic basalts and quartz latites. This celebrated locality is known for amethyst and quartz crystals, including distinctive sceptre forms, as well as prehnite, analcime, laumontite, and baryte. Quartz may also display negative quartz inclusions, adding further interest to these highly sought-after Namibian specimens. Its combination of striking crystal habits, varied mineral associations, and clear locality identity keeps Goboboseb material highly desirable among collectors today.
