Realgar is an arsenic sulfide mineral, As4S4, known for its deep red to orange-red color and resinous luster. Its name comes from Arabic, and it was known as a pigment in Byzantium by the early 13th century.

The Eureka Mining District in Eureka County, Nevada is a historic 13-mile-long by 1- to 2-mile-wide district that lies near the town of Eureka. It was one of the major western producers of lead, silver, and gold from 1869 to 1890, and production continued annually through 1952. Collectors know the district for argentiferous and auriferous galena along with pyrite, sphalerite, arsenopyrite, tetrahedrite, wulfenite, azurite, malachite, scorodite, anglesite, and cerussite, making it a classic Great Basin locality for well-known ore and secondary mineral specimens.
