Green octahedral fluorite crystals dusted with quartz, providing an attractive luster. There is also a group of slightly larger quartz crystals growing on the peaks of some of the fluorite crystals, resembling snow on a mountain.
Fluorite is a halide mineral composed of calcium fluoride (CaF2), named in 1797 by Carlo Antonio Galeani Napione from the Latin fluere meaning "to flow" for its use as a flux. It is the principal source of fluorine, which provides the fluoride found in everyday toothpaste.
