Locality: Rat's Nest Claim, Idaho, USA

Size: Miniature - 4 × 3.8 × 2.6 cm

Mined by John Cornish, this Zeolite mineral combination is most commonly found across the world in India. Heulandite is a hydrated calcium-sodium aluminosilicate in the zeolite group. It was named in 1822 by Henry James Brooke for mineral collector Johann Heinrich Heuland. Its open, channel-like structure gives zeolites their ability to exchange water and ions.

Rat’s Nest Claim is in the Bay Horse Mining District of Custer County, Idaho, USA, in the Challis area. It is known to collectors for producing zeolites, especially heulandite, and stilbite has also been reported from the claim. Specimens from this locality are notable for their pastel pink to deeper pink crystallization, making the site a recognized Idaho source for collectible zeolite material.
