Size: Small Cabinet - 8.3 × 5 × 7 cm
“Flower Child #2” Very interesting, bright yellow, inclusions in this lodolite “Garden” Quartz, which also contains Chlorite. The color and texture of the yellow inclusions is similar to Nontronite, which is my best guess at this time.
Quartz is a common silicate mineral made of silicon dioxide, SiO2. It was named for the German word Quarz, and the name was used in 1530 by Georgius Agricola. It is also the mineral behind familiar glassmaking and precision quartz crystals in electronics.
Minas Gerais is a major mineral province in southeastern Brazil, with the Quadrilátero Ferrífero in central and south-central Minas Gerais recognized as one of the world’s great iron-bearing regions. The state is especially known for its immense iron deposits, and USGS work also documents important manganese, bauxite, gold, and zinc occurrences across the region. For collectors, Minas Gerais is a classic source area associated with significant specimen production from mines, pegmatites, and historic districts, making it one of Brazil’s most important names in mineral collecting.
