It was first described in 1768 by J.G. Gahn, and its name comes from Topazios, the ancient Greek name for St. John’s Island in the Red Sea.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eDassu is a former village locality in Braldu Valley, Shigar District, Gilgit-Baltistan, in northern Pakistan, set along the Braldu River amid high-altitude granitic pegmatites. The area is geologically known for complex pegmatite outcrops between about 2,500 and 3,500 meters, and it has produced extraordinary aquamarine and topaz specimens, often found on feldspar.
