Deep Red Wulfenite from an uncommon locality. This piece does have a bit of damage to the crystals, like most of the production I’ve seen/handled minus a handful of exceptional specimens. The color is a little darker that most Red Cloud Wulfenites.
Wulfenite is a lead molybdate mineral, PbMoO4, prized for its bright orange-yellow to red-orange crystals. Wilhelm Karl von Haidinger renamed it in 1845 for Franz Xaver von Wulfen, and the name honors the Austrian Jesuit botanist and mineralogist; its vivid crystals are a classic collector favorite.
The Kuruktag Mountains in eastern Xinjiang, northwestern China are part of a remote Gobi landscape in the East Tianshan region. This area is geologically notable for mineralization ranging from Neoproterozoic to Quaternary age, reflecting a long and complex geologic history. Collector interest in the region is tied to its diverse mineral occurrences and the broader mineral-rich belts of eastern Xinjiang, where notable deposits and specimens have been documented.
