Sky Blue Topaz is a pale-blue variety of topaz, an aluminum silicate fluoride hydroxide mineral with the formula Al2(SiO4)(F,OH)2. Topaz was named after Topazos, an island in the Red Sea described by Pliny the Elder. Its hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale makes it a durable gemstone.
