Locality: Yindu Ag-Pb-Zn deposit, Hexigten Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, China

Size: Miniature - 3.7 × 3 × 2.1 cm

Glassy, translucent, and iridescent rainbows on two faces. Small contact and a little rough on the corner, but a vibrant and colorful piece.

Fluorite is calcium fluoride, CaF2, a common halide mineral prized for vivid color and iridescent sheen. Named in 1797 by Carlo Antonio Galeani Napione from Latin fluere, meaning “to flow,” it is the mineral behind the word fluorescence and is the principal source of fluorine.

The Yindu Ag-Pb-Zn deposit is in Hexigten Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, China, and is recognized as a mineral locality in the region. It is known for Ag-Pb-Zn mineralization, with collector-interest specimens including fluorite, calcite, quartz, fluorapatite, boulangerite, siderite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, pyrite, and sphalerite. The locality is especially relevant to collectors for its documented suite of well-associated ore and gangue minerals, reflecting the deposit’s polymetallic character.
