Fluorite is a halide mineral composed of calcium fluoride (CaF2), commercially known as fluorspar, and was named in 1797 by Carlo Antonio Galeani Napione from the Latin fluere meaning "to flow" due to its use as a flux.
Milltown Quarry, located in Milltown near Ashover in Derbyshire, England, is a historic limestone quarry renowned for its abundant fluorite deposits found within mineralized veins or rakes. The site has produced striking colourless fluorite crystals up to 10cm in size, typically cubic in habit and often inclusioned with microscopic pyrite crystals, alongside calcite and occasional galena. Collectors value this locality for its fluorite abundance and the unique quality of its colorless, white, yellow, and purple specimens that exemplify classic Derbyshire mineralogy. Today, Milltown Quarry remains a significant reference point for fluorite collectors seeking well-formed, inclusion-rich cubes from one of England's most productive fluorite quarries.
