The gemmy, bright blue Apatite crystal measures 10mm. Apatite is a phosphate mineral in the apatite group, commonly represented by Ca5(PO4)3(F,Cl,OH). The name was coined by Abraham Gottlob Werner in 1786 from the Greek apatan, meaning “to deceive,” because it was often mistaken for other minerals. Blue apatite specimens are prized for their vivid color and gemmy look on matrix.
Chamkoroma is a locality in Kongwa, Kongwa District, Dodoma Region, central Tanzania, a region known for mineral occurrences associated with the broader Dodoma area. The Kongwa district locality is listed with coordinates in the eastern part of the region and is part of an area that collectors associate with Tanzanian field localities rather than a major commercial mining center.
