Labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar, specifically an anorthite variety with formula Ca,Na[Al(Al,Si)Si2O8]. It was first found at Ford Harbour on Paul Island near Nain, Labrador, and its name comes from that Canadian locality. It is prized for labradorescence, a flashing iridescent effect seen in some specimens.
