Size: 5.6 × 3.1 × 1.7 cm
Very unique ‘?’ shape to this single and complete Copper Crystal. The structure appears to have grown wrapped around another mineral. The purple color is possibly from acid runoff from earlier mining operations, or by natural acids.
Native copper is the elemental metal Cu, a native element known for its copper-red color. It was first described by ancient and early mineral workers, and its name comes from the Latin word for copper. It is the copper that powers familiar wiring, cookware, and coinage.
Bou Nahas Mine, in the Oumjrane mining area of Tinghir Province in Morocco’s Drâa-Tafilalet Region, is a copper locality in the Anti-Atlas with Bou N’has as a historical name. It is noted for native copper and for being the type locality of bounahasite, a copper hydroxychloride mineral. The mine is of interest to collectors for its documented copper occurrences and associated quartz, with the locality recognized among Morocco’s mineral-bearing sites.
