Aragonite is a carbonate mineral with the formula CaCO3. It was first described in 1797 by Abrahan Gottlob Werner, and its name comes from Aragón in Spain, where it was first identified.
The Anti-Atlas Mountains in southern Morocco are the southernmost of the country’s four main mountain ranges and are part of the Atlas system. This region is known for a wide variety of mineral resources and has produced collector minerals such as chrysocolla, heterogenite, bornite, hematite, chalcanthite, and quartz. Locality names from the Anti-Atlas often include well-known mining areas such as Bou Azzer and Ightem, reflecting its strong association with classic Moroccan mineral specimens. For collectors, the Anti-Atlas remains significant as a source of distinctive, regionally important material from one of Morocco’s most mineral-rich mountain belts.
