Vanadinite is a lead vanadate chloride, Pb5(VO4)3Cl, and a member of the apatite group. It was first described in 1838 by Andrés Manuel del Río, and its name comes from vanadium. It is a major ore of vanadium, a metal used in strong alloys.

Mibladen mining district lies about 25 km northeast of Midelt in Morocco’s Drâa-Tafilalet Region and is a stratiform deposit hosted in Liassic limestones and dolomites. It is world-famous among collectors for excellent vanadinite crystals and has also produced baryte, cerussite, galena, and mottramite. Historic workings numbered more than 600 shafts between 1926 and 1949, and today the district remains relevant for specimen collecting through ongoing recovery from old workings and small surface shafts.
