Locality: Chromite mine, Harmancık District, Bursa Province, Turkey
This sparkly Chrome Chalcedony is a green variety of chalcedony, a cryptocrystalline quartz with formula SiO2, colored deep green by chromium compounds. It was first described from an ancient Roman gem collection, and the name combines “chrome” for chromium with chalcedony.
The Chromite mine in Harmancık District, Bursa Province, Turkey is a small collector locality best known for chromite in a mafic-ultramafic geological setting, with chromite confirmed from Bursa Province and chrome-chalcedony recorded from the mine itself. The site is of interest today for its association with chromium-bearing mineralization and for specimens of chrome-chalcedony that appeal to collectors seeking unusual material from Turkish chrome deposits.
