Fluorite is calcium fluoride, CaF2, and a common mineral in the isometric crystal system. It was first described in 1530 by Georgius Agricola, and its name comes from the Latin word fluere, meaning “to flow.” It is also the principal source of fluorine, and is used in toothpaste and other everyday products.
Xianghualing Mine in Linwu County, Chenzhou, Hunan, China is a skarn-type Sn-Pb-Zn deposit in the Xianghualing Sn-polymetallic ore field. It is known for significant tin and lead-zinc endowment, with estimated metal resources of about 134,000 tons of Sn and 178,000 tons of Pb-Zn. The ore field has produced classic skarn assemblages and collectible specimens such as cassiterite, magnetite, arsenopyrite, topaz, fluorite, sphalerite, galena, pyrite, chalcopyrite, quartz, and calcite. It remains an important Chinese locality for cabinet specimens, especially for collectors seeking well-formed tin and fluorite associations.
