Epidote is a silicate mineral, Ca2(Al,Fe)3Si3O12(OH), often found with quartz in hydrothermal veins and metamorphic rocks. It was first described in 1801 by René Just Haüy, and its name comes from the Greek epidosis, meaning “increase.” It is used mostly as a semiprecious gemstone.
Şemdinli in Hakkâri District, Hakkâri Province, Turkey is a locality in southeastern Turkey within the broader Hakkâri mining region. The area is known for secondary lead-zinc mineralization, and the nearby Hakkâri Zinc project is described as having been mined since Roman times. For collectors, it is relevant chiefly as part of Turkey’s long-recognized lead-zinc district, with specimens associated with the province’s mineralization history.
