This unique gemstone features a simplified trillion cut, which helps highlight the inclusions. Amethyst is a violet to purple variety of quartz, SiO2. Its name comes from Greek “a-methystos,” meaning “not drunk,” and it was first described long ago as a stone believed to ward off intoxication.
