Very unusual and specially unique to this locality, ‘Rainbow Flash’ Topaz are iridescent, resulting from rainbow colors reflecting off hollow tubes running through the crystal that are filled or coated with Limonite.
Topaz is a fluorine-bearing silicate mineral with formula Al2SiO4(F,OH)2. It was first described by René Just Haüy in 1783, and its name comes from the ancient Greek name Topazios, a Red Sea island.
Ponto do Marambaia, in Caraí, Minas Gerais, Brazil, is a mineral locality in the eastern part of the state known among collectors for its pegmatite-hosted specimens. The locality is associated with the Batatal claim and the Papamel claim, both listed under the same occurrence area. It is collected for Brazilian pegmatite material that reflects the mineral-rich geology of the region, making it of ongoing interest to mineral collectors.
