Size reflects the size of the vial, not the crystals, which measure 2-4mm each. Rhodochrosite is a comparatively rare manganese carbonate mineral with the formula MnCO3. Johann Friedrich Ludwig Hausmann named it in 1813, combining Greek words meaning “rose” and “color” for its signature pink hue.
Sweet Home Mine lies on Mount Bross in Colorado’s historic Alma Mining District, where high-altitude hydrothermal veins have produced some of the world’s finest mineral specimens. The locality is celebrated chiefly for its vivid red rhodochrosite, including exceptional crystals recovered from the Number 2 stope and the famous Rainbow Pocket. It has also yielded attractive clear, blue, green, yellow, and zoned fluorite crystals associated with quartz and other sulfide minerals. Renowned for specimen mining and landmark rhodochrosite discoveries, Sweet Home material remains highly prized by collectors today.
