This Sapphire gemstone doesn’t have the clarity you might expect, but its color is nice. It’s checkerboard cut on both sides, making it a unique cut. Sapphire is the blue gem variety of corundum, a mineral of aluminum oxide, Al2O3. It was first described in 1730 by Johann von Fuchs, and the name comes from the Greek word for blue. Its durability makes it one of the best-known gemstones.
