Milltown Quarry, Milltown, Ashover, Derbyshire, is a noted fluorite locality producing cubic crystals in colourless, white, yellow, and purple hues. Crystals may reach 10 cm, although most specimens are smaller than 2 cm and commonly contain minute included pyrite crystals. Fluorite is associated with quartz, while the quarry has also yielded unusual secondary minerals including ashoverite, sweetite, hemimorphite, and radial white gamma-Zn(OH)2. Its combination of attractive fluorite colour, cubic form, occasional large crystals, and distinctive mineral associations makes Milltown Quarry a compelling locality for British mineral collectors.
