Parisite is a calcium rare-earth fluoro-carbonate mineral, commonly represented by parisite-(Ce), CaCe2(CO3)3F2. Discovered at Colombia’s Muzo emerald mine, it honors J.J. Paris, the mine’s former manager.
The Snowbird Mine lies in the Cedar Creek Mining District of Mineral County, Montana, and was mined for fluorite in 1956–1957. The deposit formed during the Cretaceous from hydrothermal fluids related to the Idaho batholith, with fluorite occurring in veins and open-space fillings within breccias of the Proterozoic Wallace Formation. Its mineral assemblage includes fluorite, calcite, quartz, pyrite, galena, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, and tetrahedrite, making Snowbird a noteworthy locality for Montana fluorite and associated sulfide specimens.
