Agatized coral is a silicified fossil where silica (SiO2) replaces the original calcium carbonate skeleton of a coral colony. First discovered in the Tampa Bay area around 1825, this Florida gemstone was used by early humans to make weapons and tools. Its waxy, translucent surface displays vibrant bands of blue, red, amber, or black, making it a popular choice for cabochon jewelry.
