Hematite “Phantom” Quartz is SiO2 quartz containing internal growth layers of Fe2O3 hematite. These striking phantom crystals preserve earlier growth stages beneath later quartz overgrowths, creating vivid red, black, or metallic silhouettes within the crystal.
Red Feather Lakes is a high-elevation locality in Larimer County, Colorado, situated at approximately 2,544 meters in the northern Colorado Front Range. The area is best known to mineral collectors for the Pennoyer Amethyst Mine, also called the Rainbow lode claim, an amethyst-producing mine near the community. With its documented amethyst occurrence and association with Colorado’s productive Front Range mineral belt, Red Feather Lakes remains a notable locality for regional mineral specimens.
