Blue to purple fluorite is a halide mineral composed of calcium fluoride, CaF2, perched on baryte. Named in 1797 by Carlo Antonio Galeani Napione, fluorite derives from the Latin fluere, meaning “to flow,” reflecting its use as a flux.

The Royal Flush Mine is located in the Hansonburg mining district near Bingham, Socorro County, New Mexico. The district is geologically known for mineralized lead-zinc deposits hosted in sedimentary rocks, and the Royal Flush is associated with collectible secondary minerals formed in the oxidized zone. Specimens from this locality are valued for their well-formed, colorful mineral assemblages and their connection to one of New Mexico’s classic mineral-producing districts.
