Bright and saturated yellow Quartz with Stalactitic growth from a ‘Rainbow’ Amethyst lot we just received. Very unusual from the rest of the lot.
Artigas Department in northwestern Uruguay is best known to collectors for the Artigas amethyst district, a major source of fine amethyst from an area about 30 km south of the city of Artigas. The department’s collector appeal centers on its widespread amethyst workings and related gemological localities, including notable quarry and district occurrences in the same region. Today it remains an important Uruguayan mineral locality for amethyst specimens with strong provenance and classic South American character.
