Sulfur is a native nonmetal element with formula S. Known since antiquity, its name comes from Sanskrit and means “burning stone.” It is a bright yellow solid, and it is the sulfur in toothpaste fluoride chemistry and fertilizers.

El Desierto mine is a sulfur locality about 8 km south of San Pablo de Napa in Daniel Campos Province, Potosí, Bolivia. It is best known among collectors for native sulfur, with additional specimens documented from gypsum, chalcedony, opal-AN, alum-(K), and tuff. The mine’s varied evaporite and silica minerals make it a notable source for distinctive Bolivia material today.
