Here’s a well-saturated Calcite from the “Peaches & Cream” lot we released recently. The first image has a little backlight, but honestly, it’s not needed to appreciate this nice pop of color in a mineral.
Calcite is a carbonate mineral, CaCO3, and the principal mineral in limestone. It was first described in 1841 by Wilhelm Haidinger, and its name comes from the Greek word for lime. It is the mineral component of limestone used in construction, lime, and cement.
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Division, formerly Aurangabad Division, is one of Maharashtra’s six divisions in the Marathwada region and covers the districts of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Hingoli, Jalna, Latur, Nanded, Dharashiv, and Parbhani. The division was renamed in 2020, and the name change was upheld in 2024. No mineral-producing localities or collector-relevant specimens are confirmed for the division itself on the approved sites, so it is best understood as a broad administrative region rather than a specific specimen source.
